The Pain and I
by Tracey Metzger
The drips on my windowpane, the sound of the steady rainfall…it all feels right today.
It is as if the sky knows and is weeping.
If I don’t recognize the pain, it will make itself known in some other way. If I don’t acknowledge its presence, it will get louder and louder.
So, I nod to it.
The pain is as real today as it was six years ago but it is more quiet… more dignified. We have learned over the years to live together in peace, the pain and I.
We have to because it is never going away.
