Cause and Effect
by Tracey Metzger
There was once a time when I didn’t know who I was because of depression.
Now, I don’t know who I would be without it.
It opened my eyes to see things I would not have otherwise seen.
I am more compassionate because of it.
Beautiful things have been birthed as a result of it.
I have bonded with strangers over it.
I love more having experienced it.
I enjoy laughter and savor joy with added gratefulness as a consequence of it.
I depend on God more on account of it.
In a strange, twisted way, it is a gift.
